lantern festival

And this is my third and last part of a perfect Saturday in Seoul, the lantern festival. As South Korea is celebrating Buddha's birthday on Monday 25th of May the city was covered with beautiful lanterns. There was a parade throughout the city that we missed because we were dining at that time. However we could gaze at the prettiness afterwards on the streets of Seoul. As the roads were blocked for once lanterns and thousands of people took over the streets. They were sitting on the streets listening to the wise words of buddhists talking about world freedom. The atmosphere was mind blowing. When we approached Cheonggye stream after dinner, we could see big lantern figures floating on the stream and a busker played Yellow from Coldplay. It was a perfect moment! I haven't seen something so beautiful for a very long time, if ever. For a perfect finish of the night we went to Jogyesa buddhist temple, where we could see another thousand lanterns covering the sky around the temple and embracing an ancient pine tree in the yard of the temple.
