fish market

It's time to share another great experience with you guys - our amazing trip to the fish market in Seoul, Noryangjin. Last friday after school, we took the subway to get there. My Korean friend Sue, told us we could get fresh Sashimi, so I was very into it. Food is always an argument!
I was amazed by the variety of fish that they have and that so many fishes were kept alive on the market. When Korean people say fresh fish they mean it! So it happened that we bought three fishes for our group of seven. The market vendor killed them directly in front of us, which was a bit of a shock, and made two very big Sashimi platters for us. After this another guy from the fish stand brought us to a restaurant which was directly located in the fish market. There we ordered rice and two very delicious spicy soups, where they put the not so perfect parts of the three fishes inside. The food was amazing, I never ever had such fresh fish before.
After dinner we decided to go for a night stroll along Han river. The atmosphere down there was stunning, yet a bit too cold to sit down on the grass. So we'll definitely go back soon for beer, chicken and probably some live music when summer is in the city. As soon as it's done I will update you with some pictures of that place. <3

seoul fashion week

I don't know where to start... today was with no doubt the most exciting day ever since I have arrived in Seoul. Ten days ago my Korean friend Sue and I commented some picture on facebook to participate in a raffle for two fashion week tickets. I haven't given it a lot of thought in the past few days, because I never actually expected to win. The message from Sue yesterday night that we can go was therefor a complete surprise, a perfect one! It was like a dream came true. Seoul is by far the most fashionable city I have ever been to, to visit fashion week here just seemed unreal.

So it happened this afternoon that I took the subway to Dongdaemun, which is only 15 minutes away from EWHA. I had to skip two lectures at university, but I couldn't care less, it was totally worth it! We went for the kiok show at 2:30 in the afternoon - this is what we wished for in our facebook comment. For the people among you who are interested in fashion check this out to get an idea of her looks: http://kiokkang.tumblr.com. The show was amaaazing, great designs, very cool music, stylish people everywhere and such a vibrant atmosphere. I forgot the world outside in there! After the show we stayed at Dongdaemun Plaza to check out more of the fashion crowd. I don't have to say anything more here, just look at the pictures, wow. One more thing that should be mentioned however is that Dongdaemun Plaza is definitely worth a visit, not only for fashion week. The building is architecturally very interesting inside & out. Have a look by yourselves! <3

food, food and food

Everyone who knows me, knows how much I appreciate a good meal. Thanks god, I love Korean food, it's actually one of the things I enjoy the most here, I admit it. They have such a diverse kitchen that after 4 weeks I have probably tried 30 different dishes, yet there are many new things to try and I'm just not getting tired of it. Of course I have cravings after my usual food every now and then. Mostly after oat meal, fresh salad, nuts, avocados, mangos and all the healthy stuff I eat so much of. The variety in fruit here is rather low and they are quite expensive and whenever you order a salad you'll probably get it with a sweet salad sauce.  We've lately been to an Italian Style restaurant where the salad sauce tasted like vanilla cream - no joke! This is was my culture shock. However Korea has plenty of things to offer. Some of my favourite dishes are BBQ, seafood pancakes and Mandu with lots of honey Makgeolli at the weekends. Many people have asked me what the Koreans eat before I left, so here you go with some impressions of their amazing kitchen. <3
